How close am I to more unlocks? At first I didn’t even know there’s no way to check your progress with weapons I could find in the game’s main post-round screens. Once I came back to the M5A3 and finally cleared 30 kills, I received a relative deluge of three more attachments along with a new skin. Because my shots with it didn’t seem to be hitting, I spent a lot of time in vehicles and swapped weapons often to try more accurate options like the DM7 and, once I unlocked it, the PP-29. In the first 20 or so hours of play, I had unlocked exactly three attachments for the M5A3, the game’s default assault rifle. This makes it very tedious to unlock weapon mods, which only become available by reaching a certain number of kills. You need to register kills, but that is quite difficult given the game’s hit registration and weapon bloom issues. Accruing XP for weapons feels unusually difficult, especially when XP isn’t given out for suppression as it was in past games. When the round ended, thread 2 returned to normal usage and the frame rate went to 160+ in the post game screens.Īpologies for this tirade but I felt the need to finally rant about it, especially after seeing so much negativity online about 2042 in the last few weeks.Progression in “Battlefield 2042” feels far too much like the latter system. As expected, high GPU usage and CPU was higher than normal, but nothing majorly concerning, I couldn't see any other applications utilising the CPU but after looking closer I did notice that thread 2 was at 100% while the rest were under 50%. This evening I tried again, mid battle my frame rate tanked from 100+ down to sub 30 for no apparent reason. There's a 50:50 chance it will completely crash (but not to desktop) when joining a server, resulting in an Alt+F4 and closing the process in Task Manager before being able to try again. The game often freezes on launch, freezes in the home screen menu, it often freezes when joining a server and kicking me back out to the main menu. I even considered my input devices or software may be the problem, so removed Ghub and removed all hardware device entries, and tested with plug&play USB peripherals, but this made no difference.Ī couple of months ago, I replaced my boot NVME (went from Gen 3 to Gen 4) and installed Windows 11 The input freezing bug seemed to stop, but instead the entire game would freeze for those 20ish seconds before carrying on, it also happened far more frequently.Īnd in this last major update, the situation has somehow degraded even further. No amount of troubleshooting or bug chasing could resolve that, and EA denied it was a real problem despite the myriad of complaints online from other users. At first, it was just the controls/inputs freezing for 15-30 seconds, while everyone else on the server carried on as normal. In the last 7 months or so, it has degraded to the point that it is unplayable. Upgraded CPU from a Ryzen 3100 to 5600X and was playing happily at 100+ fps at 1440p. I never experienced any stability issues, no freezing or crashing, and never any of those graphical issues which seemed to mostly be from consoles. When the game first went live, it was playable but with performance issues. But no more, I cannot defend this atrocity any longer. I was a staunch defender of 2042 when the majority of issues stemmed from users with older CPUs or 4 core processors. It is the most unreliable gaming experience I've ever had the stupidity to endure. This is without question the most unstable and buggy game I have ever encountered.
